Every year a website releases several kilograms of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. When a website is used, data is transferred to and processed in remote servers. The electricity consumed by these servers and by our computers accounts for 2% of the world’s air pollution, as much as the airline industry!
We use the Tree-Nation ‘Net Zero Website smart label’ – this automatically compensates for all the CO2 emissions generated by our website, by tracking the website usage and calculating its related emissions, then planting the trees needed to offset these emissions.
Every year we highlight important campaigns such as Earth Day and Great Big Green Week, as well as holding special educational events for local families. At our free Tidal Change event children were able to crawl inside the belly of a life-sized sperm whale for an incredible, interactive show focusing on the issue of our polluted oceans.
At our Eco-Easter event we welcomed a nature reserve in the centre and held daily activities for families to engage with and understand more about the environment, and our impact on it.
