VJ Day is on the 15th August and marks the 80th anniversary of victory over Japan, when Imperial Japan surrendered bringing an end to World War II.
Friday 15th August
We will join the national two-minute silence at 12 noon to honour the 80th anniversary of VJ Day.
Saturday 16th Aug 11am – 4pm
We will be welcoming back members of Luton & District Model Boat Club with a fantastic display of WWII model boats in Central Square.
There will be a 7ft model of HMS Hood, a British battle cruiser launched in 1918 and destroyed on May 24, 1941, during World War II in the Battle of the Denmark Strait. Its sinking, which led to the deaths of all but 3 of a crew of 1,418, remains the single greatest loss of life in Royal Navy history.
There will also be an 8ft model of HMS Rodney, which played a major role in the sinking of the German battleship Bismarck in 1941, as well as some destroyers and escort vessels on display.
The Royal British Legion will also be in attendance selling a range of merchandise.
