If you’re looking for a fun holiday activity to do with your little ones (or something to enjoy with a warm mug of cocoa), our easy gingerbread recipe is the perfect place to start.

Your ultimate easy gingerbread recipe

🛒 Ingredients

100g salted butter

3 tbsp golden syrup

100g dark muscovado sugar

½ tsp bicarbonate of soda

1 tbsp ground ginger

1 tsp ground cinnamon

225g plain flour

50g icing sugar

👩‍🍳 How to make it

1. Melt & Mix – Heat the butter, syrup and sugar in a pan until melted. Let cool slightly.
2. Combine Dry Ingredients – Mix bicarb, ginger, cinnamon and flour in a large bowl.
3. Bring Dough Together – Stir in the buttery syrup mix and use your hands to form a soft dough.
4. Chill & Roll – Shape into a rectangle, sandwich between baking parchment and roll out to about ½ cm thick. Chill for 1 hour.
5. Cut & Bake – Preheat oven to 190°C/170°C fan/gas 5. Cut shapes and bake for 10–12 mins until golden.
6. Decorate – Mix icing sugar with a little water to make a thick icing, then pipe on your favourite festive decorations once cooled.
